Around Leal Senado and the Sé
The area around the Leal Senado and the Sé Catedral
still shows a lot of the Portuguese influence in Macau.
It is also a great meeting place and the site of small
outdoor events -- this time, I found a display celebrating
the year of the dog!

Pictures from Around Macau
These are pictures of some landmarks in Macau. They include a
number of gardens that have disappeared and now look like
construction sites (one sad thing about Macau is green spaces
keep disappearing!). They also include a picture of the Hospital
where my mother used to work -- and where a few of my siblings
were born!

Antigo Liceu de Macau (Old Portuguese School)
My high school, the "Liceu de Macau", is no longer a high school --
but it still looks very much the same. For memories' sake, I got a
picture of my old classroom window and a few other parts of the
school.

Shortcut to School
When walking to school, I used to take a shortcut up the
"Monte da Guia". Surprisingly, most pieces of the shortcut
are still there!

Fisherman's Wharf
Macau is always growing -- not just up (by building taller buildings) but
also sideways (by filling lots of the sea). All of this expansion is financed
with profits from the casinos (after all, Macau is the Las Vegas of the Far East).
Fisherman's Wharf is a cute new development with miniatures of landmarks from
around the world and a shopping area.

Lamma Island, Near Hong Kong
While in Hong Kong, I had a busy scheduling -- planning a grant,
getting career advice from Lon Cardon, and teaching at an
excellent Genetics Symposium at the University of
Hong Kong Medical School. I only found a tiny bit of free time
to go for a walk around Lamma Island.
