Genome Science Training Program

The Genome Science Training Program (GSTP) at the University of Michigan provides support for predoctoral training at the interface of statistical, computational, and molecular genetics under support from the National Human Genome Research Institute of the National Institutes of Health.

Since its inception in 1995, the Program has supported one-hundred fifty-one trainees, including thirteen during the 2023-2024 academic year. Funding usually is for an initial two years of support with a third year of support possible on a competitive basis . United States citizens and permanent residents are eligible to apply. Predoctoral trainees can be new applicants to a relevant University of Michigan graduate program (Biostatistics, Computational Medicine and Bioinformatics, Epidemiology, and Human Genetics) and from the departments of other participating faculty (Anthropology, Biological Chemistry, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Environmental Health Sciences, Microbiology and Immunology, Nutritional Sciences, and Statistics) or continuing Michigan students at any stage in their graduate studies.

Predoctoral trainees are expected to undertake a core curriculum of the training program. Predoctoral trainees are provided with full tuition (two semesters) and a stipend. They also receive travel funds towards attendance at a scientific meeting.
